# ChatGPT plugin (development)

The Sofer plugin connects a signed-in Sofer account to ChatGPT through a separate
MCP server. It can submit audio files or direct download links for transcription,
check job status, and retrieve sources from the account's Maishiv knowledge base.

The MCP transport has its own tool schemas; the existing Fern REST API contract
is unchanged. Transcription uses the same services and billing as the website.
Search uses the chunk-search endpoint's shared retrieval implementation and
returns passages, citations and available audio timestamps. Authenticated
connector searches have no Sofer search charge and do not consume the website's
daily Maishiv allowance. The public REST search endpoint retains its separate
\$0.01-per-completed-search API billing.

A private staging server is connected in ChatGPT for the selected pilot. It has
not been published to the public directory. Audio imports use streamed storage
uploads rather than a 64 MiB in-memory buffer; normal storage limits and import
timeouts still apply. See
